"After exploring the countryside east of Taihape, I went back & forth on this road at different times of the day. I just sensed I might strike something somewhere, if I kept on searching. And then I rounded a corner & came across this beautiful scene with the sheep & lambs, in the middle of the day. Beautiful! The sun’s high position was backlighting the trees’ spring leaves against the dark moody skies around Mt. Pukeokahu, creating great colour & contrast. Like much of the North Island, the Rangitikei offers some stunning rural scenes like this, tucked away from view off the main roads. It pays to be curious & take some detours - it’s nearly always more scenic!"
