Collection: Anna Palmer

In my current work I am concentrating on the coastline and it’s flora and fauna of the North Island of New Zealand as I feel that this area is part of my culture. I have lived, worked and played here all my life. I have drawn primarily in conte pastel on black paper since art school days. Pastel provides me with immediacy of expression and intensity of colour.

My work is a celebration of colour, form and the energy created by their juxtaposition: the contrast of earth colours with bright acrid blues, purples and oranges; the intense, dramatic light of late afternoon; the jaggedness of the land against the sea.
