Collection: Duncan Shearer

Duncan Shearer is a studio potter. Originally Auckland based, he and his partner moved to the Waikato and for the last few years they have been busy developing a pottery studio and building kilns.

Duncan specialises mainly in wheel throwing and has a ‘soft spot’ for making bottles. He enjoys wood firing and vapor glazing.

A very clever kiln designer, Duncan has built a number of wood fired, gas and diesel fueled kilns in this country and overseas. His expertise and total understanding of the science of firing, produces wonderful pots with surfaces telling the story of the flame. This combined with beautiful form to his pots, sits Duncan’s work with that of top NZ potters.

Duncan is a popular tutor and has taught from basic skills at night school, to tertiary level specialist ceramic courses.
