Collection: Helen Keen

Originally an acclaimed ceramic artist, Helen's painting techniques have emerged from this foundation. Now, over three decades of creative arts practice has culminated in her contemporary and immersive paintings. Exploring abstraction, colour, gestures and mark making, Helen manipulates many mediums and textures including  encaustic wax, resins, acrylic and oil

The artworks using encaustic wax must be seen and touched in person to appreciate the unique surface created by fusing with flame a vast number of translucent layers of molten tree resin, beeswax and colour pigment. The results are original works that are not only visual in a multi-dimensional sense, but tactile too.

Exhibiting in galleries around New Zealand, Helen currently works from her home and studio in West Auckland.
