Collection: Hong Cumming

Raised and educated in China, Hong developed a love of art as a teenager. She later spent fifteen years working in Shanghai’s advertising industry, creating storyboards and illustrations.

After moving to New Zealand fifteen years ago, Hong expanded her artistic practice to include watercolour, acrylic, oil painting, sculpture and pottery. She began teaching from a small studio in her Hamilton backyard, gradually building a thriving creative community for children, adults and local artists. Her studio later moved to the heart of Hamilton.

With nearly 35 years of experience in art, Hong is best known for her expressive watercolour paintings inspired by local landscapes and architecture — particularly Hamilton Gardens. Her work has been exhibited, sold and acquired by art collectors. She continues to develop her own artistic practice while teaching a wide range of styles and media.
