"Nikau palms rhopalostylis sapida thrive in large groves along the coastal section of the Heaphy Track, with a warm current from the Tasman Sea which keeps conditions temperate. With nikau everywhere you look, it took me twice as long to walk this section as I couldn’t help but continuously stop to take more pictures! But I really love this scene, small elements like the large clumps of moss on the nikau trunks elevate the image, it’s so unusual. I enjoy it when you don’t see everything all at once, it’s nice to keep discovering little details."
