“I scouted several beaches around Auckland the previous day, on my hunt for any early pohutukawa displays & found these brilliant blooms on the shores of Cheltenham Beach, with Rangitoto island perfectly positioned behind. But with the weather set to deteriorate, I knew these flowers wouldn’t last long. So the next morning I was up at 5am & I captured these brilliant blooms at first light. And as I packed up to leave, the clouds were already dominating the sky, so it was gratifying that I'd made the early effort!”
