Roadside Grasses

A medium 20” x 20” (510mm) oil painting on canvas.

"I captured this image one day whilst we were travelling the back roads from Rotorua to Pukehina beach but it could be any roadside country scene in New Zealand.

It was a beautiful summers day and we were all excited to be near the ocean to cool down.  I took this photo from the car window as I was struck by the beauty of all of the roadside flowers and the beautiful farmland beyond.

There were two carloads travelling that day and my friend also took the same shot so it definitely resonated with us.

I think that a lot of people don’t take the time to stop for a moment and take in the beauty that is all around us.  So I wanted to paint this scene to make people remember how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country.

Furthermore I always want my works to look consistent.  Six or seven colours are used in my paintings.  I am trying to achieve harmony within the painting and my whole landscape series."
